Adobe Acrobat Releases “Mars” XML File Support Add-in

Microsoft Office 2007 nativaly supports the XML file specificaion. Microsoft also wanted users to have the ability to work with Adobe’s PDF files. But Adobe wasn’t happy that Microsoft users would have a built-in alternative solution to Adobe’s Acrobat program.

So Microsoft removed the PDF feature from Office 2007 and is now provided as an Office 2007 add-on — Microsoft also provids a free XLM Notepad Editor, and for previous versions of Office the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack (open, edit, and save documents, workbooks, and presentations in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 file formats).

Well now, Adobe has introduced the Mars XML Plug-in for Acrobat 8.0 — while I welcome their decision to support XML, I wonder why Adobe make such a fuss about the open-API PDF format?
