FREE Microsoft Software for Tablet PC

While Tablet PCs can take advantage of all Microsoft’s free Windows, Research and Office software; there’s a great deal of free Microsoft software designed specifically for the Tablet PC. 
Education Pack includes five programs to help you excel at school. (watch Emily Rimas’s video at the bottom of this page)
    • Equation Writer – Handwrite a math equation, and then convert it into a neatly typewritten image.
    • GoBinder Lite – Keep track of your schedule to jot down quick reminders about class schedules, project deadlines, and extracurricular activities.
    • Hexic Deluxe – This full-featured puzzle game has a new spin, by allowing you to rotate pieces easily with your tablet pen.
    • Ink Flash Cards – Create flash cards to help you learn facts or study for an exam.
    • Send to OneNote 2003 – Keep all of your class notes and research in one place, by sending web pages, pictures, and other files to OneNote, and annotate or highlight them with your tablet pen.

Experience Pack contains six programs to be more productive and creative (watch Dustin Hubbard’s video at the bottom of this page) 
    • Ink Desktop – Take notes directly on your desktop for quick and easy access later.
    • Snipping Tool –  Use your tablet pen to select a portion of a website, document, or other content on your screen.
    • Ink Art – Paint with your tablet pen using Ink Art, which simulates an artist’s toolset.
    • Media Transfer – Copy or stream media files from your home computer to your Tablet PC.
    • Ink Crossword – Solve crossword puzzles with your tablet pen.

Getting Started with C# Development for the Tablet PC – This hand-on lab introduces the features and benefits of developing applications for Tablet PC form factor. You create a Windows Form application that is a physician’s prescription pad. The application demonstrates manipulating basic ink properties, collecting ink, rendering ink, and exposing handwriting recognition functionality.
InkListBox is a custom control that extends the ListBox class with ink functionality for managed Windows Forms.
InkWebPublisher sample C# code illustrates how to create and transform ink content from your application into interactive HTML Web pages. Includes information about implementing alt text and rollover functionality for ink.
Journal Reader Supplemental Component for Tablet PC Development Kit provides programmatic read access to files in the Journal format. This simple component takes a stream containing a Journal file and returns a stream containing the file’s content in XML format.
Mobile Ink To-Do Starter Kit contains a semi-transparent form for taking notes and keeping them synchronized through a Web Service. It also supports battery awareness and online and offline data, two key features of a great Mobile PC Visual Basic & C# applications.

Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Pack Update is for users who already have installed the Windows XP Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Pack. Power Paint Tool – Sketch, paint and draw creating pictures in layers based upon the pressure from your stylus.

Shopping List is a simple ink-enabled list that uses gestures to add and remove items.

Thumbnail View – Navigate and quickly preview your journal files.

Web Search Power Tool – Allows searching the Web using Tablet’s inking capabilities.

Writing Practice ToolHelp your children practice their writing skills by practicing writing words, then watching as the letters animate to show a picture of the word.  


BETA! Arcs of Fire is the first game to be developed that utilizes the Tablet PC Game SDK.  Arcs Of Fire makes heavy use of pen functionality during game play.

Dots! – An interactive strategy game (1 or 2 player) with the objective: Connect four adjacent dots with the pen to form a complete square.

Euclidean Crisis is a multiplayer real-time strategy game where players control a diverse team of units on a two-dimensional battlefield, and must destroy their opponents’ energy cores while protecting their own. Players tell units where to go by drawing out paths, and give orders using special gestures and voice activated commands. The game is rendered in a retro aesthetic featuring simple shapes (hence the origin of the title) in a world with colorful, psychedelic visual effects synced to the music.

Hoop Strategy – Build your own strategy to get the ball in the hoop. Draw a path and be creative—but keep in mind that gravity, velocity, and trajectory will play a big part in your success.

Letteris – A Tetris-like game of cascading letters and words, where letters fall from the top of the screen and start stacking at the bottom. You must make words using those letters and get points based on how many words you can guess.

Maze Game – Escape this maze as fast as you can by using your pen to draw a line from start to finish.

Phraseology – Similar to the popular TV game show "Wheel of Fortune," Phraseology presents pieces of sentences along with a category name. To win you must guess the correct phrase, letter by letter, using ink!

Pool – Using your tablet pen, compete against the computer or another person, or against another Tablet PC user across a wired or wireless network.

Puzzle Game –  Drag and click jigsaw puzzle pieces together using the tablet pen. You can also create customized puzzles of different levels of difficulty.

Tic Tac Toe – The “classic” game.

Word Search – Challenge yourself with the Tablet PC version of the Word Search Game. Create games using your own choice of words and difficulty levels!

Writing Recognition – To score points, write the letters before they hit the ground. The higher your score goes, the faster the letters drop. 


Music Composition Tool – Create and play your own music files. Use your pen to write notes on the staff and then play your tune.

Sheet Music Templates – To use this stationery after you download it, on the New task pane, under Stationery, click New from stationery. In the Stationery task pane, under Add a page, click to open the stationery collection, and then click the page you want to use.
